Greenlee Roofing and National Solar: Roofing and Solar, Planned Together

Panels go on for 25 years. Putting them on a roof with five years left means paying someone to take them off, reroof, and put them back. So the first question in any solar conversation is a roofing question, and that’s where we come in.

How the introduction works

Tell us you’re thinking about solar when you request an inspection, and we can arrange an introduction to National Solar and help you understand whether the roof needs work first. It works the other direction too: if National Solar’s team is out at a house and sees the roof needs work first, they send the homeowner to us for a free inspection and proposal.

Greenlee does the roofing. National Solar does the solar. Each company puts its own scope, schedule and warranty in writing, so you always know who is responsible for what. You’re not managing two contractors who’ve never met, and nobody’s pointing at the other guy when something needs an answer.

Start with the roof you have

A new roof is not automatically part of going solar. Our inspector walks the roof and tells you where it stands: years left, a repair that should happen first, or a replacement that makes sense before the panels go on. If the roof is fine, we say so, and the solar conversation continues without us.

If roofing work is needed, you get a line-item proposal, usually the next business day. That gives the solar team a real date to plan around instead of a guess, and it means the panels go on a roof that will outlast them.

Already have panels and need a roof?

That happens too. Panels have to come off for a replacement and go back on afterward, and the sequencing matters: who removes them, who stores them, who reinstalls them, and whose warranty covers what in between. We coordinate that with National Solar so it’s planned before tear-off, not figured out on the day.

Paying for it

Financing through our Service Finance provider covers roofing work. Solar is financed separately through National Solar. We don’t bundle the two into one loan, and we’d rather you see each number on its own.

What to ask before either project starts

Which company owns each part of the work, and is it in writing? What’s the sequence, and what happens if the weather moves a date? Who is responsible for the roof’s watertightness where panel mounts go through it? Good answers to those are what a coordinated project looks like.
